When QDoc is a good option

QDoc works well for simple, clean cuts — the kind you’d get from something like a kitchen knife or a broken dish.

You can use QDoc for laceration care when:

The cut is small, clean, and not very deep
You’re 16 or older and able to consent to your own treatment (no sedation needed)
The bleeding has slowed or stopped with pressure
You’re mainly looking for guidance on whether the wound needs closure and how to care for it at home

In these cases, a QDoc provider can look at the injury over video, walk you through proper cleaning, tell you if it needs in-person sutures, and help you plan next steps.

When in-person care is needed, this process ensures patients are triaged quickly and receive timely attention for cuts or skin tears that need professional care.

When QDoc is not appropriate

If any of the following are true, you should go in-person rather than using QDoc:

Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
Numbness, tingling, weakness, or trouble moving the area (possible nerve or tendon injury)
A broken bone or another serious injury (e.g., head injury, neck injury)
A deep, open wound
Human or animal bites
Cuts involving the eyelid, lip, or ear
Injuries from a crush mechanism (finger in a door, heavy object, machinery, etc.)

These situations often require stitches, imaging, antibiotics, or a hands-on physical exam that cannot be done virtually.

QDoc is not for emergency situations. If your injury is severe, bleeding heavily, or life-threatening, please visit your nearest emergency department or call 911 immediately.
