David Berkowits
David is the father of 3 amazing daughters, and a medical informatics professional with 30 years of experience in a variety of technical and leadership roles. David began his career with Philips Medical Systems working with MR, CT, and all things Xray. Working for Philips provided David with the opportunity to work in the Netherlands, United States, and Canada. After Philips, David joined the senior leadership team of Altapacs in the role of technical architect. As an organization jointly owned by two of Canada’s largest radiology practices, EFW and Mayfair diagnostics, there was plenty of opportunity to design, build and develop numerous clinical systems over the 15 years that the joint partnership existed. Of particular interest was the project he designed and coded which provided teleradiology services to N.W.T and Yukon, this software changed the way radiology service was provided to these communities. This software continues to be used as the mechanism that all of Mayfair diagnostics tele radiology services are provided today. The design leverages the use of standards such as HL7, FHIR, and DICOM to ensure seamless integration of orders and reports across disparate systems. Once we split the two radiology groups up into individually run IT organizations, it was time to look for the next challenge. Teaming up with Dr. Norman Silver to develop and build a virtual episodic healthcare platform which could deliver an excellent patient experience, while maintaining continuity of care using local physicians, reducing unneeded emergency room visits, and long patient wait times is the perfect next project.

I am a Full Stack Developer experienced in UI/UX and SQL backend development, and a graduate from Red River College. My career interest has always been in both healthcare and technology, so – joining the QDoc team has been super exciting as I get to mesh both worlds at work. The idea of helping develop a product that will provide healthcare through the use of easily accessible web technology is both rewarding and motivating. Outside of work, I love exploring the city for new foods, drinks and current events!
