How exactly does QDoc simplify charting? / More info on Audio Recordings

How exactly does QDoc simplify charting? / More info on Audio Recordings Encounter summaries are automatically created using information entered by the patient, information generated during the encounter, and notes written by the physician during the encounter. These summaries are saved to the patient’s profile and are faxed to the patient’s primary care provider, allowing the patient’s medical history to stay up to date. The QDoc software also takes an audio recording of each encounter. In order to keep our forms clear and concise, a dictation of this recording is not included on the Encounter Summary. However, each recording is stored in the QDoc database, linked to the corresponding patient and encounter. According to the CMPA, audio recordings are the best way for physicians to protect themselves from a medical legal perspective and in the case of auditing. At the bottom of each Encounter Summary, there is a disclaimer: ‘As part of the medical visit, QDoc records the audio of the encounter. If you need further information for this encounter, please contact us at info@qdoc.ca.’ RELATED ARTICLES General Questions How does QDoc Work?   Can I still use QDoc if I’m not physically located in Manitoba?   Can I still use QDoc if I’m in Manitoba but don’t have a Manitoba Health card?   Who are your QDoctors?   How can QDoc help?   How much does it cost?   Is my healthcare information secure?   How old do I have to be to access QDoc on my own?   I need an ASL interpreter – can I use QDoc?   What provinces can I use QDoc in?   Can I confirm the validity of someone else’s sick note? How does it work for sending encounter summaries to the patient’s primary care provider?

How does it work for sending encounter summaries to the patient’s primary care provider? When a patient creates their profile, they have the option of selecting their family doctor and clinic from a list provided by QDoc. At the start of every encounter through QDoc, they are asked whether they want a copy of this encounter sent to their primary care provider (PCP). If they select Yes, then a copy of the Encounter Summary (automatically generated with each encounter) is faxed to the clinic selected in the patient’s profile.  If the patient did not select a doctor/clinic when creating their profile but said that they do want a copy sent to their PCP, the QDoctor can select ‘Edit Patient Info’ during the encounter to add the family doctor/clinic. Can I see patients through QDoc if I am not physically located in Manitoba?

Can I see patients through QDoc if I am not physically located in Manitoba? No – the CPSM mandates that all Manitoba-licensed physicians must be physically located in Manitoba while treating patients. The patients must also be located in Manitoba, Nunavut, or NW Ontario to be treated by a Manitoba-licensed physician. Does QDoc meet the CPSM’s virtual care standard?

Does QDoc meet the CPSM’s virtual care standard? Yes! QDoc has met with the CPSM on several occasions to discuss how we can provide a virtual medical care service to Manitobans that meets their virtual care standard. They have approved of our platform and our expectations and have confirmed that we meet their standard. Upon request, QDoc can provide you with a template of our Virtual Care Plan, which has been submitted to and approved by the CPSM. Most questions are in reference to section 5.2.1.ii: “Registrants providing virtual medical care must have the ability themselves to provide a timely physical assessment of the patient.” Each of our physicians is associated with a clinic from which they can offer in-person care. In order to facilitate easier access, we use the patient’s postal code to preferentially connect them with a physician that works in their RHA. We also have three partner clinics across the province where patients can be seen if needed. When a patient needs to be seen in person, our expectation is that the QDoctor will offer to see them first. If the patient prefers to go elsewhere, due to geographic proximity or appointment availability, then the QDoctor will send a referral. Having offered to see the patient and having declared the ability to do so ensures that QDoc meets this standard. If a physician is not associated with a physical clinic in which they can see QDoc patients, they can offer to see the patient at The Minor Illness and Injury Clinic or the Pan Am Clinic in Winnipeg within 2 weeks from the time of the virtual encounter. The majority of patients will prefer to receive a referral to a different clinic where they can be seen sooner. Please see ‘How do I Arrange to Use Space at The Minor Illness and Injury Clinic or the Pan Am Clinic’ for more information.
