Discover Manitoba’s Great Outdoors: Family Favourite Campgrounds

Camping is one of the most exciting ways to get out and enjoy the hot summer in Manitoba. The campgrounds here host all sorts of activities, and it’s great to know the differences to ensure your family and friends can have the best possible experience. This article has 5 incredible and different campgrounds that all have something unique about them.   1. Wasagaming Campground  Looking for a vacation but want to stay in Manitoba? Wasagaming Campground, located in Riding Mountain National Park, is breathtaking for its beautiful and incredibly diverse land. The campground is close to Clear Lake Beach, with many outdoor activities such as walking/biking trails, tennis courts, canoe, kayak, bike rentals, horseback riding, an 18-hole golf course, and more. Indoor activities include shopping around the town’s boutiques, restaurants, cafés, and ice cream shops. If you’re looking for a campground with endless amounts of activities, Wasagaming Campground is the one for you.  2. Lilac Resort  Lilac Resort is not your average campground and is certainly worth visiting this summer. Rather than hitting a beach, try out Lilac Resort and its tiki-themed waterpark full of pools, hot tubs, and waterslides. Activities are limitless here, with live entertainment, various sporting fields and courts, fishing ponds, movie nights, and other planned activities. The great thing about this spot is that you can have a day full of activities or you can have a day of relaxation. There really is something for everyone!   3. Grand Beach Campground   Known for its incredible beach and large campgrounds, this is a classic summer getaway spot popular with Manitobans. Grand Beach is well known for its soft white sand, substantial and shallow water, and massive sand dunes over 39 feet high! The beach is definitely this campground’s main attraction. There are still a lot of additional fun activities like water sports, shopping around the local markets, hiking trails, and catching fish.   4. St. Malo Provincial Park  St. Malo has plenty of children-friendly activities located right on the main beach, large areas of green space with three separate playgrounds, an ice cream shop, and mini golf. The two beaches in the campground have calm, shallow waters and are only about a 10-minute walk from each other. Unique activities include walking to the Rat Lake Dam, St. Malo’s historic sight, Grotto, and water activity rentals such as canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and pedal boats.   5. Nopiming Provincial Park   Four great campgrounds live in Nopiming Provincial Park, meaning “entrance to the wilderness” in the Anishinaabe language. Living up to its name, Nopiming is a natural and untouched space with incredible hiking, swimming, and fishing scenes. Be sure to enjoy the fresh air while seeing the breathtaking view at Tulabi Falls.     Camping in Manitoba and need to see a doctor? 12 Foods to Boost Your Mood

Have you ever noticed how certain foods can make you feel happier, more energized, or even calmer? It’s no secret that our diet can affect our physical health, but did you know it can also impact our emotional well-being? Studies have shown that certain foods can boost our mood by increasing the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are responsible for regulating our mood, sleep, and appetite.  In this article, we’ll explore some of the best foods to eat when you need a little mood boost and how they can help you feel more upbeat. So, whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or just in need of a pick-me-up, these foods can help you feel better from the inside out.  Proteins     Salmon   Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for developing the nervous system and the brain. Many studies also indicate that salmon can help ease some emotional distress thanks to the food’s high protein sources, vitamin B12 and vitamin D.   Turkey  Most of us have heard turkey makes us sleepy, but did you know it can also make us happy? Turkey has sources of tryptophan to help increase serotonin and tyrosine for our brain transmitters. Turkey also contains the B vitamins, including B6 and B12, and the mineral zinc. Studies show that zinc deficiency can be linked to increased depression or anxiety.  Eggs   Eggs are very high in protein, vitamin B12, and vitamin D. They also have a nutrient called choline, which helps support our mood, and our nervous system and assists in producing neurotransmitters. The yolks in an egg are rich in many nutrients like tyrosine, omega-3 fatty acids, biotin, and especially tryptophan.   Fruits and Vegetables    Bananas  Bananas are high in Vitamin B6 and contain both sugar and fibre, including prebiotics. Vitamin B6 synthesizes neurotransmitters, like serotonin and dopamine, that help lift up our moods. When sugar is mixed with fibre, the sugar slowly releases into your bloodstream, controlling your mood by stabilizing your blood sugar levels. This is helpful because lower blood sugar levels can cause us to have emotional episodes, irritability, and anxiety.   Pomegranates  Pomegranates are great fruit high in vitamins, nutrients, fibre, and antioxidants. The boost in antioxidants can help with brain health and protect the body’s cells.   Blueberries   Blueberries have high amounts of antioxidants, known as flavonoids, to help regulate moods, decrease cellular aging, and help improve memory by activating brain pathways.   Pineapples  Pineapple can help improve your mood as it is a good source of the amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is used by the body to produce serotonin, and pineapple is a great fruit to help ensure you have enough production of these happy hormones.   Dark leafy greens  We must ensure that we get enough magnesium, a mineral that can help reduce anxiety levels. Dark, leafy greens, and especially spinach, are packed with magnesium. Other great benefits include vitamin B and iron, which are linked to increased energy production.  Avocado  This superfood has tons of benefits as they contain fibre and vitamins B5, B6, C, and E. Vitamin B5 greatly supports the adrenal glands and helps synthesize neurotransmitters. Both the nutrients and micronutrients help fight against fatigue, assisting in boosting your energy levels.   Brussel sprouts  Brussel sprouts are rich in a vitamin B called folate, which ultimately helps with mood regulation in our brains. Eating foods that contain folate and folic acid daily can help us improve how we feel in significant ways.     Other Mood Boosters  Chocolate  Luckily for us, chocolate has benefits, one being for our moods. Phenylethylamine, theobromine, and tryptophan are all components found in chocolate that help promote happiness. Antioxidants found in dark chocolate also help reduce cortisol and other stress hormones.   Coffee   Caffeine is a stimulant in coffee that can increase our energy levels and release mood-boosting transmitters called dopamine and norepinephrine. When we drink coffee, it is absorbed into our bloodstream; and from there, it travels to our brain. Caffeine then blocks a chemical messenger called adenosine that can make us drowsy, explaining why we feel less tired and more alert.    Overall, the foods we eat significantly impact our mood, energy levels, and emotional well-being. Incorporating the listed foods into our diets can help us regulate our moods, reduce anxiety, and increase energy levels. Additionally, chocolate and coffee are excellent mood boosters that help us feel happier and more alert. Making conscious decisions about the foods we consume can positively impact our physical and mental health. So next time you’re feeling down, consider adding some of these mood-boosting foods to your diet and experience the benefits.    QDoc provides high-quality, provincially funded virtual medical care with cutting-edge technology that digitally connects you to an online doctor in Manitoba, ready to see you for any non-emergent medical issue. The Impacts of Virtual Healthcare

We often see television shows or movies depicting our world in a futuristic setting; we see people in flying cars, automation, and industries powered by the strength of technology. We have grown to think, “One day, that will be us,” and that day is coming quickly.   Technology is growing faster than we could ever imagine, and we have recently seen significant advancements. There is no doubt that the world as we know it has changed significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our world adapted and persevered through the pandemic, bringing new and more powerful technology.   New technologies bring with them the reality of facing a “New Normal.” One of these “New Normals” is the widespread use of our cellphones for joining video conferences for work and school. Virtual Healthcare takes advantage of the adoption of the advancements made in video conferencing. Much like getting food brought to your doorstep at the touch of a button, you can receive medical attention by contacting your online doctor with your personal device.   We know there is no replacing a physical visit with your doctor in certain circumstances, but many people end up spending a lot of time and resources seeing a doctor for an issue that can be seen and diagnosed remotely. The ability to video conference with an online doctor reduces the exhaustive backlogs of patients waiting to see a doctor for minor ailments. With the help of Virtual Healthcare, the patients seeking urgent attention can be seen quicker while reducing the strain on our local healthcare systems.   With the adoption of Virtual Healthcare, Manitoba rural communities are seeing the greatest impact. At QDoc, nearly three-quarters (70%) of the patient volume that our online doctors see has come from those that live in Manitoba rural communities who may not have gone to see a doctor for a minor issue, that could have turned into a much larger one. As the expression goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”   The rapid adoption of Virtual Healthcare in these Manitoba communities proves that this is a healthcare option that bridges a gap that patients may have fallen through due to resources being difficult to access. Virtual healthcare reduces the need to travel long distances and further strain local wait times for certain mundane activities such as getting a prescription refill.   There is also an ever-growing need for physicians in rural areas, and virtual health helps to fill these gaps.   At QDoc our online doctors service Manitoba and surrounding communities in Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. Our continuous goal is to expand to other provinces and help bridge those gaps too. Virtual Healthcare through QDoc has been a huge win for Manitoba’s healthcare industry, with 850 (and counting) five-star patient reviews. Our QDoctors are eager and excited to continue leading the way in virtual healthcare, while serving our population in Manitoba.  It is quite easy to think of the COVID-19 pandemic negatively. We should always remember the mistakes that were made along the way. However, in every trying time, there are those who try and find a way out of the darkness. Virtual Healthcare, along with the ever-growing advancements in technology, is most notably a brighter path amongst the dark.   Share This Post

The Power of Virtual Healthcare: How QDoc is Transforming Manitoba’s Healthcare System

We are excited to share with you the impact our platform is having on Manitoba’s healthcare system. With over 4000 patients per month, equivalent to approximately 160 patients per day, our virtual healthcare services are improving access to quality medical care for Manitobans, especially those in rural areas. Around 76% of our patients live outside of Winnipeg, highlighting our efforts to assist Manitoba’s rural communities. We are bridging the gap between healthcare providers and patients by providing a reliable and secure platform that is easily accessible from the comfort of patients’ homes. At this time, QDoc has enrolled 70 physicians from multiple specialties who are passionate about serving Manitobans regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. Moreover, our team of 28 collaborators is dedicated to ensuring that patients receive quality medical care and are provided with timely medical advice. Our team is constantly striving to increase our partnerships to better serve our communities. Additionally, in November 2022 alone, we saved the province between 500 and 600 emergency room visits. This achievement is a testament to the importance of virtual healthcare for non-emergency services. By providing patients with virtual access to healthcare providers, we are reducing wait times, improving the quality of care, and saving healthcare resources. Furthermore, in our alliance with educational institutions, we are providing opportunities for students and recent graduates to start their careers in a company that offers a variety of development and growth opportunities.
