When to Get Laceration Care on QDoc
Minor cuts and skin tears happen — And while most small injuries can heal on their own, some require professional attention to prevent infection and ensure proper healing. That’s why QDoc is proud to offer CutDoc Laceration Care, a streamlined way to get connected to in-person treatment quickly and safely in Winnipeg. It’s not always obvious, though, whether a cut can be managed at home, with QDoc, or requires a visit to a clinic — here’s a simple breakdown to help you decide. When QDoc is a good option QDoc works well for simple, clean cuts — the kind you’d get from something like a kitchen knife or a broken dish. You can use QDoc for laceration care when: The cut is small, clean, and not very deep You’re 16 or older and able to consent to your own treatment (no sedation needed) The bleeding has slowed or stopped with pressure You’re mainly looking for guidance on whether the wound needs closure and how to care for it at home In these cases, a QDoc provider can look at the injury over video, walk you through proper cleaning, tell you if it needs in-person sutures, and help you plan next steps. If that sounds like your situation, you can start a visit with a QDoc provider or learn more about how laceration care works on QDoc. When in-person care is needed, this process ensures patients are triaged quickly and receive timely attention for cuts or skin tears that need professional care. When QDoc is not appropriate If any of the following are true, you should go in-person rather than using QDoc: Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding Numbness, tingling, weakness, or trouble moving the area (possible nerve or tendon injury) A broken bone or another serious injury (e.g., head injury, neck injury) A deep, open wound Human or animal bites Cuts involving the eyelid, lip, or ear Injuries from a crush mechanism (finger in a door, heavy object, machinery, etc.) These situations often require stitches, imaging, antibiotics, or a hands-on physical exam that cannot be done virtually. Important Notes QDoc is not for emergency situations. If your injury is severe, bleeding heavily, or life-threatening, please visit your nearest emergency department or call 911 immediately. Not every laceration will require in-person care. Our CutDoc physicians will determine the best course of action for each patient to ensure safe and effective treatment. Share the Post:

Updated Regulations
Share This Post Every day QDoc works hard to bring equal access to healthcare for everyone in Manitoba and bridge the gaps for those who are underserved in our province. In response to updated regulations and through the hard work and dedication of our team, we have been able to secure contracts with the Northern Health Region, Southern Health-Santé Sud, and Prairie Mountain Health to streamline our ability to provide service and coverage in these areas. Our dedication to our patients, no matter their socioeconomic status or geographical location, remains unchanged. As is the nature of this industry, these changes will likely show as increased wait times for our patients outside of the contract areas, as we develop the partnerships with all of the regions. In addition, we have been onboarding more doctors to our platform, with more scheduled to start with us very soon. Our QDoc platform continues to grow in its ability to support the patients and our team of QDoctors remains committed to providing quality and timely service. We understand the frustration that goes with waiting to see a doctor, whether it’s online or in person. We encourage everyone in Manitoba to continue to advocate for themselves and the improvement in our health care system. We are honoured and privileged to continue supporting you.
Enhancing Healthcare Access and Quality: Welcoming Nurse Practitioners to QDoc
Share This Post QDoc is thrilled to welcome the addition of Nurse Practitioners to our service, further fortifying our commitment to address bridging the gaps in the Manitoba healthcare system. While many may be unfamiliar with the role of a Nurse Practitioner, it’s beneficial to understand the value and impact they can make on our health and well-being. In this article, we will clarify what a Nurse Practitioner really is, and shed light on the reasons why consulting a Nurse Practitioner through QDoc can be beneficial to you. What can a Nurse Practitioner do? A Nurse Practitioner (NP) first starts their career as a registered nurse and then goes on to have additional training and education. Nurse practitioners can, but are not exactly limited to doing the following: Order and interpret tests such as diagnostic imaging and lab work Analyze test results Prescribe medications and refill existing prescriptions Diagnose medical conditions, illnesses, and diseases Gather and record medical histories and symptoms. Perform medical procedures Write referrals for medical specialists NPs possess a broad spectrum of skills that significantly enhance the quality of healthcare. The presence of Nurse Practitioners is on the rise in many Canadian provinces, with NP positions expanding into more diverse areas such as long-term care, pediatrics, women’s health, emergency medicine, and more. They can be found working in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, emergency rooms, nursing homes, urgent care facilities, and now in the realm of virtual care services like QDoc! What can’t a Nurse Practitioner do? As we know, not all medical needs can be addressed through remote consultations, as there are certain limitations to virtual healthcare. In such cases, our local online doctors write referrals to specialists or schedule in-person appointments for patients at our partner clinics. Nurse Practitioners on our team follow the same approach and, when necessary, collaborate with our physicians to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate care. Choosing a Nurse Practitioner Through QDoc Patients will have the choice of whether they want to see an NP through QDoc, before entering our waitlist. We recommend choosing based on your own comfort but note that wait times may be faster if the patient is okay with either a physician or Nurse Practitioner. Conclusion: Incorporating Nurse Practitioners into the QDoc team represents a significant step forward in enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare services. These skilled professionals are equipped to address a wide range of medical needs and work seamlessly alongside our physicians to provide comprehensive care. By bridging the gap between virtual and in-person healthcare, Nurse Practitioners can make a lasting impact on the well-being of our community.
